Ephrata Fire Department Honors Volunteers Awards banquet recognizes the excellence of EFD members
EPHRATA —The Ephrata Fire Department honored its members at their annual awards banquet on Saturday, November 15, 2008.
The function, held at the American Legion Hall and hosted by the Ephrata Firefighters Association, entertained the firefighters and their families and guests.
“The annual banquet is one way we say thank you to our department’s most valuable assets: Ephrata Volunteer Firefighters,” said Chief Jeremy Burns. “Without them, in our community, fires won’t get put out and lives won’t get saved.”
Honored with special service awards:
- Firefighter of the Year— Lieutenant Mike Stussy
Mike received this award based upon nominations from his peers. Mike is the department’s training officer, and is always seeking new knowledge to improve himself and the Ephrata Department.
- Customer Service Excellence Awards — Captain Billy Smith and Firefighters Stephen Gerrer and Jordan Cox
Billy, Jordan and Stephen all delivered exemplary levels of customer service in 2008, effectively raising the bar on what levels our members must achieve in 2009.
- Chief’s Award — Firefighter Jordan Cox
Jordan received this award based upon selection by the fire chief. Jordan’s dedication to the EFD was demonstrated throughout 2008.
- Educational Achievement Award — Firefighter Jeff Nelson
Jeff received this award based upon nominations from his peers. In one year’s time, Jeff achieved professional credentialing as a Washington State Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, Hazardous Material Operations, and Emergency Medical Technician. These classes required a tremendous investment of time. Jeff balanced these classes with his job and the time he spent his two young sons.
- Length of Service Awards: Trudy Foreman, 5 years; Scott Cook, 5 years; Kevin Hill, 10 years; and Earl Romig, 10 years.
- Support Services Awards: Crystal Hill and Leah Stussy
The Ephrata Fire Department has only one paid fire suppression employee, Chief Jeremy Burns, and one paid administrative assistant, Misty Fairchild. The remainder of EFD’s services are dependent upon the skills and time investments of EFD’s 25 volunteers.
