Windstorm Impacting Grant County May 3, 2010 WINDSTORM IMPACTING GRANT COUNTY -- ROAD CLOSURES OFFICIALS ASK CITIZENS TO LIMIT TRAVEL, STAY AWAY FROM POWER LINES MOSES LAKE – This is an update regarding the windstorm occurring today, May 3, 2010. Fire and law enforcement agencies all incidents under control. All fire incidents are under control or extinguished. Many traffic lights at major intersections are also inoperable. Current Road Closures confirmed by WSP and Grant County Emergency Management: • State Route 17 south of I-90/Moses Lake – closed due to blowing dust and multiple vehicle crashes • State Route 281 between Quincy and George – closed due to blowing dust • County Road 20 NE east of Stratford Road – closed due to blowing dust • County Road Q SW between George and County Road 3 SW – closed due to blowing dust • County Road M SE between State Route 17 and State Route 262 – closed due to blowing dust • County Road R SE between County Roads 1 and 3 SE – closed due to blowing dust Blowing dust will impact many other roads as well, however those roads may not be blocked due to the limited amount of response resources. School Closures: • Quincy School District has cancelled after school programs for today (confirmed by Gus Winter at QSD) Transportation Closures: • Grant Transit Authority has cancelled their routes between Quincy and George until further notice. Grant County Emergency Management and the Sheriff’s Office are asking people to STAY OFF THE ROADWAYS. Do not attempt to travel — STAY PUT and wait out this storm. The National Weather Service advises that this storm may last until 11:00 p.m. tonight. Citizens are asked to stay tuned to local television and radio stations for updated information. Citizens are also asked to NOT call 9-1-1 unless they are reporting an emergency. Also, do not approach or attempt to move any downed power lines. All power lines should be considered dangerous and should only be handled by the Grant County PUD.
