MISLEADING PETITION
City Alerts Residents about Petition, Supports Port of Ephrata
EPHRATA, WA. The City of Ephrata received a petition by email on Wednesday 17 November 2010. The petition was under the official Seal of the City and purportedly came from a group of Ephrata residents.
The City of Ephrata has three primary concerns with this document: 1. This document is in no way associated with the City of Ephrata and falsely represents itself so. 2. The document contains names that do not appear to be residents of Ephrata. 3. The City of Ephrata disagrees with the premise of the document.
This misleading petition did not originate from, or in any way with, the City of Ephrata. The City Seal on thisdocument was used without permission and in violation of statutes. As this may also be a violation of State law, the City is exploring what legal action may be taken against the individual(s) for unauthorized use of the City logo.
Of the names that are legible, none appear in any City record, on any Ephrata utility account; nor do the individuals appear on a brief Internet phone, or name search for Ephrata residents. The email account that sent the document is no longer active.
The City of Ephrata, Mayor, and City Council fully supports both the Port of Ephrata, and their manager Mike Wren. We have a long working history with Mr. Wren; his integrity, professionalism, and job performance have greatly benefited our community. The City of Ephrata is proud to be associated with both the Port and Mr. Wren.
The City of Ephrata has attempted to contact the author of the document, but as no records exist and the sending email address is invalid, we are unable to do so. The City asks residents who have knowledge of, or contact information for, the author of this document to report it to City Hall.
