| American Red Cross Learn To Swim Program
IPAP- INFANT AND PARENT AQUATIC PROGRAM To help develop swimming readiness by leading parents and their children in water exploration activities with the objective of having fun and becoming comfortable in , on and around the water. This is a water adjustment class for infants, 6 months and older, preschoolers and an adult. Instructors will introduce bubble blowing, underwater eye opening, gliding, flutter kick, arm movements on front and back and age appropriate skills. LEVEL 1- ANEMONES To help students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely. Water adjustment, moving through the water supported float on face and back, introduction to alternating arm movement, entering and exiting water independently and personal safety rules. LEVEL 2- SEA HORSES To provide student with opportunities for success with fundamental skills. Underwater breath holding, prone float, supine float, leveling off, introduction to deep water, back crawl arm action, combined front strokes, 5 yards, turning over and personal safety and rescue rules LEVEL 3- CLOWN FISH To build on the skills in Level 2 by providing additional guided practice. Retrieve objects from bottom of pool with eyes open, jump into deep water, prone glide, supine glide, coordinate arm stroke with side breathing, 10 yards, coordinate back crowl, 10 yards, elementary back stroke, reverse directions while swimming, treading water, and personal safety and rescue skills. LEVEL 4- ANGELFISH To build student confidence and performance of the swimming strokes learned in Level 3 by providing additional guided practice. Rotary breathing, deep water bobbing, standing dive, elementary back stroke, front and back crawl, 25 yards, breaststroke kick, scissor kick, basic turns, rescue breathing, and treading water with modified kicks LEVEL 5- OCTOPUS To build on the skills in Level 4 by providing additional guided practice. Alternate breathing, stride jump, forward dive from board, long shallow dive, breaststroke, side stroke, front and back crawl, open turns on front and back, spinal injury recongnition, safe diving rules, and feet first surface dives LEVEL 6- SHARK BAIT- Lifeguard Readiness Students will develop their strokes and learn basic skills including, swimming with a rescue tube, compact jumps, wading and walking assists and using a backboard. LEVEL 6- SHARK BAIT- Personal Water Safety Students will contunie to impove their swimming skills, learn to swim while fully clothed, self rescue techniques while clothed and basic safety rules for boating and open water swimming LEVEL 6- SHARK BAIT- Fitness Swimmer Students eill develop their strokes and turns while learning to use equipment such as pace clocks, fins, paddles and pull bouys. They will also learn training etiquette for fitness swimming, how to develop a fitness program and how to calculate their target heart rate LEVEL 6- SHARK BAIT-Fundamentals of Diving Students will impove their strokes while learning the approach and hurdle, the forward dive in the tuck and pike positions and learn some basic stretching exercises for diving.
GUARD START Frundamental aquatic principles of accident response and prevention, fitness, leadership skills, and how to be professional while on duty. Must know front crawl, side stroke and back stroke prior to enrollment. THE TWO WEEK PROGRAM IS FOLLOWED BY ONE WEEK AS AN INSTRUCTOR'S AID.
