Each December, the Ephrata Police Department looks forward to our Shop with a Cop program. The community, especially our local Walmart, has been very supportive and generous in assisting us with making this event special for the young children involved. This program is designed to foster positive relationships between youth and officers. The children chosen are usually K - 6th grade. Officers guide the children around Walmart and purchase gifts for members of their immediate family. The children get to meet Santa and ride in a police vehicle parade with the lights and sirens going up to Walmart. After the shopping is finished, the children and officers wrap all the gifts and then have dinner with the officers and the children's family.
