Open City Council Seat - Are you interested?

The City of Ephrata has an opening for a city council member. The council member is one of the elected officers of the City, serving the community by the will of the people.  This position has such powers and duties as are conferred upon them by the people through state laws, city ordinances, and resolutions. The ability of councilors to effectively communicate, and foster positive interaction with other councilors, staff, and the public is critical to the success of the city.

A council member exercises decision-making skills within the collective, legislative group, as a policy board. The day-to-day operations of the city are the mayor’s responsibility in Ephrata’s mayor-council form of government. To be eligible to hold elective office under the mayor-council plan the person must be a registered voter of the city at the time of filing his or her declaration of candidacy and have been a resident of the city for at least one year preceding his or her selection as outlined in RCW 35A.12.030. This is an appointed term created by a resignation and thus will be a two-year term, and up for election in 2025.

Anyone interested should submit a letter of interest to Mayor Bruce Reim through the City Administrator in person or via mail to Mayor Bruce Reim, 121 Alder St SW, Ephrata, WA 98823, or via email at rtowry@ephrata.org. Applications will be screened by the mayor and council and a selection is then made by the council. Letters of interest are due by 4:00pm on Monday, January 15th.

This position is not an employee position; no benefits are offered or implied. For questions, please contact Ephrata City Administrator, Ray Towry, at rtowry@ephrata.org or call 509-754-4601 ext. 157.
